Deze cursus komt tegemoet aan de expliciete vraag van onderzoekers om in een korte cursus alle facetten van (de-)implementatieonderzoek door te nemen. Het doel van de cursus is om onderzoekers (promovendi en postdocs) te leren hoe ze (de-)implementatieonderzoek kunnen opzetten en uitvoeren.

In health care, promising research results or evidence-based guidelines do not automatically become standard of clinical care. Therefore, a next step, also known as implementation and dissemination, is necessary. Implementation science is the study of methods and strategies that facilitate the uptake of evidence-based research findings in healthcare settings. Within this emerging field it is crucial that professionals from medicine, nursing, psychology, pharmacy, and engineering collaborate.

In this course you will learn the theory, operational and evaluation approaches of implementation science and how to apply implementation strategies in practice.

The emphasis of this course will be on applying Intervention Mapping to a specific case during the course and with transfer to participants’ own projects. Intervention Mapping is an approach for the design of health promotion and behavior change programs, guiding health promoters through a series of steps that will assist them in theory-based and evidence-based program development.

We will do so in the context of global health and health inequities, building on fundamental implementation science theory while learning from best-practice examples across the globe.

It takes more than a decade to implement evidence-based interventions in a real life setting (know-do gap) due to a myriad of impediments, especially in low-resourced settings. The goal of implementation science is to close this know-do gap by balancing theory and practical applications to examine and address gaps between the development of evidence-based health innovations and their delivery in routine practice. This summer course seeks to provide a brief overview of the theory, operational and evaluation approaches to implementation science.

De implementatie science practitioner wordt opgeleid om in een actieve rol als bruggenbouwer en ambassadeur de verspreiding en implementatie van opgedane kennis op het gebied van doelmatigheidsonderzoek en/of passende zorg (coalitieakkoord 2021-2025) op de werkvloer te (helpen) realiseren met als doel (kosten)effectieve zorg te realiseren in de dagelijkse praktijk.

This includes a wide range of materials from journal articles, books, journals, newsletters, (online) courses, upcoming events, websites and video presentations. This self-directed, online mini-course provides a brief introduction to the field of implementation science through short video lectures, readings and case studies.

These introductory materials provide high-level insight into what implementation science is and briefly introduce a few frameworks commonly used in the field. These frameworks and additional topics are covered in depth through the UCSF Implementation Science Training Program, which offers in-person and online training in implementation science, with an emphasis on applied instruction for researchers as well as practitioners.

The Active Implementation Hub is a free, online learning environment for use by any stakeholder — practitioners, educators, coaches, trainers, purveyors — involved in active implementation and scaling up of programs and innovations. The site goal is to increase the knowledge and improve the performance of persons engaged in actively implementing any program or practice.
